Chi Kung Workshop at Dāha Wellness
Led by Ross, our Tai Chi Instructor
Chi Kung is an umbrella term for a wide range of mind-body practices originating in China, all aimed at developing different aspects of the individual. It is a constantly evolving discipline, with countless styles, each with its own focus, methods, and philosophy.
Traditionally, Chi Kung can be grouped into three broad categories:
• Medicinal: supporting health and encouraging the flow of chi in response to specific conditions
• Martial: cultivating power for use in martial arts
• Meditative: training the mind and its relationship to the world
While most practices touch on all three, each tends to emphasise one. In this workshop, our focus will be on the meditative aspect.
Led by Ross, our Tai Chi instructor, we will be exploring Zhan Zhuang Chi Kung, often translated as “standing like a tree.” This practice embodies qualities of rootedness, strength, flexibility, and longevity. Though externally still, it is deeply engaging both physically and mentally.
With regular practice, this stillness begins to spread throughout the body. The breath slows and deepens, tension releases, and a calm, centred awareness emerges. As the body settles, so too does the mind.
This workshop offers an introduction to the practice through guided and hands-on work, giving participants a direct experience of these qualities. We will also provide a clear roadmap for continued practice, supporting you in developing focus, relaxation, and inner stability over time.
